Announcing Our First Strategic Partnership

How Devano and Verge Genomics Are Reimagining Data Curation

At Devano, our mission is to use modern AI to eliminate the manual bottlenecks that slow down scientific discovery. We believe AI agents can finally make tedious biomedical data wrangling a thing of the past.

Today, we’re excited to announce our first strategic partnership with a team that shares that vision: Verge Genomics.

Over the past few months, Verge and Devano have partnered to tackle the problem of GEO data curation. With Devano’s GEO and PubMed agents, the Verge team can now compress days of manual work into just minutes.

Why Verge Genomics

Verge Genomics is a clinical-stage biotech company using human data and machine learning to transform how drugs are discovered and developed. Their platform, CONVERGE®, integrates genomics, human genetics, ML, and advanced disease modeling to identify biological pathways and targets that are most likely to be disease-modifying.

Rather than relying solely on reductionist models, Verge starts with human tissue and genetics, using systems biology and AI to synthesize evidence and prioritize targets with strong disease causality. They’ve also invested deeply in experimental capabilities—iPSC-derived human cell and organoid models, drug screening, medicinal chemistry—to build a fully integrated drug discovery engine.

This integrated platform has been used to discover, validate, and develop multiple drugs in diverse human diseases, with Verge’s lead program scheduled to complete a Proof of Concept Phase II clinical trial in ALS later this year, and a robust pipeline of additional drugs in discovery and development.

This is not just a team that uses AI—they build with AI, and have been doing so for years. As large language models and other forms of generative AI matured, Verge sought out ways to extend CONVERGE® with these new capabilities.

It was clear from our first conversation that we shared core values: leverage cutting-edge AI, but never remove the human. Build systems that accelerate decisions, but always leave room for expert judgment. Structure messy data, but respect its complexity.

Devano AI is a perfect partner to help Verge realize huge benefits from AI-enhanced processes to access greater quantities of high-quality human data that fuel the drug discovery engine and synthesize biomedical literature insights.

An agentic AI platform for biotech

The Devano Intelligence Platform is designed to help life science teams automate complex data workflows using AI-native tools. It’s built around a network of custom agents—small, smart, LLM-powered modules that know how to extract structured information from critical biomedical resources like GEO, PubMed, clinical trial databases, and more.

These agents work in coordination to perform data transformations: searching, filtering, extracting, validating, harmonizing, and surfacing the information that researchers need to move their work forward.

Here’s how it works:

For our partnership with Verge, we’re deploying a tailored workflow that focuses on one of the most central but challenging resources in biomedical science: GEO (Gene Expression Omnibus).

Devano's GEO and PubMed Agents

GEOSearch

Helps researchers quickly surface the most relevant studies by enriching and extending GEO metadata in real-time. Instead of combing through hundreds of flat, often inconsistent records, scientists get a smart, sortable view with key details up front.

GEOFlow

Digs deeper. Our agents extract context from study metadata, linked PubMed articles, and supplementary materials to build structured, harmonized datasets. Tissue type hidden in a figure caption? Sample counts embedded in a PDF? No problem. Our system reads it, classifies it, and brings it into a structured whole.

All of this runs on DevanoBase, our backend infrastructure for scalable, distributed compute, with a clean web frontend to make the results accessible and actionable.

Why This Matters

We love GEO. It's one of the richest, most valuable public datasets in biomedical research. But it's also only semi-structured—offering flexibility for contributors at the cost of reusability.

As folks who've built biomedical databases ourselves, we understand the fundamental tradeoff: rigid structures lose important nuance; excessive flexibility hampers standardization and makes filtering, joining, and searching difficult

Now, with the emergence of LLMs and AI agents trained to understand biomedical data, we can finally have both. We can preserve the richness and messiness, while surfacing order and structure where it counts.

This matters because it’s not just about saving time—it’s about scaling science. Verge estimates that processes which once took over 30 hours per disease indication can now be completed in minutes. Across dozens of human diseases interrogated, this really adds up! The results are not only faster but also more consistent, better curated, and seamlessly ready to integrate into CONVERGE®. This accelerates the exploration of more diseases, enables more reproducible workflows, and delivers deeper insights to fuel Verge’s discovery engine. Just as importantly, it frees Verge scientists to focus on higher-value scientific challenges.

What’s Next

This partnership is just the beginning. Verge is a foundational partner, and we’re excited to continue expanding the capabilities of our platform to support their work. They’re growing fast, and so are we.

At Devano, we’re building for the teams that are shaping the future of biomedicine. If you work with fragmented data, constantly stitch together resources, or spend too much time turning unstructured information into something you can use—we’d love to talk.

We believe this collaboration represents a new model for AI-biotech partnership: one that values interpretability, creativity, and real-world scientific impact.

Thank You

We’re incredibly grateful to the team at Verge for their partnership, trust, and scientific rigor. It’s a privilege to work with a group so committed to transforming drug discovery with AI and human intelligence working hand in hand.
